TIPS FROM THE EXPERTS
"Gee, I wish I would have
known that when I started!"
Legacy video training clips are now available for
all to see. The basics of importing from a GEDCOM, data entry, AKAs and
addresses, notes, sources, pictures, the calendar, and the To Do List now can
all be found online. Previously this video could only be viewed on the
Legacy for Beginners (CD 1) which is contained on the installation
disk.
In addition there are selected video
samples from the Video Training Series (CD 2, CD 3, CD 4 and CD 5)
demonstrating how to cleanup your location list and use the source clipboard;
showing the why's and how's of tagging, as well as an introduction to
chronologies and the Descendant View.
There is also an informative video
demonstrating the AniMap program. AniMap finds
old towns and counties long-since disappeared from the map or that have
changed names. The program shows in a graphical way the formation of
U.S. counties and subsequent changes in their boundaries.
A GenSmarts for Legacy
video demonstration is also included. GenSmarts is a genealogy
software program that can analyze your family file and tell you, by person,
which record to research, and why. This exciting add-on program is an
excellent tool to help you with your research.
Check back often as additional software
demos are planned.

browser to:

To customize the toolbar:
1. Right-click on the toolbar at the bottom of the Siblings/Information window
at the lower-right corner of Family or Pedigree View. The Customize Toolbar
screen appears.
2. Add, remove, or move tools as desired.
3. Click OK when you are finished.
To remove a tool from the toolbar, drag it off the Toolbar in the top row and
drop it somewhere on the background. Any tools to the right will move in to fill
the space.
To add a new tool to the toolbar, drag it from the Available Toobar Buttons in
the second row and drop it at the position you want to place it. As you drag a
tool over the toolbar, a vertical line will appear to indicate where the tool
will be inserted. Any tools to the right will move over to make room.
To move a tool from one position to another, drag the tool from its current
position to the new position within the top Pedigree Toolbar. The other tools
will be moved to make room and fill the space.
To put all the standard tools back on the toolbar in the default order, click
the Reset Default button.
Note: There is only room for a limited number of tools on the bars in Legacy. If
one is full, any insertion of another tool will cause the existing tool at the
right end to drop off. Resizing a window will make a difference as to how many
tools can be displayed. A very small window can display only a few icons; a
full- size window will display all.
The Customizable Toolbar is a feature of Legacy 5.0 Deluxe Edition, and not the
Standard Edition. If you would like to order Legacy 5.0 Deluxe Edition, please
visit our Online Store at:
www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Redirect/Store-Legacy.asp

SHARE YOUR EXPERT TIP
Do you have an expert tip to share? Send your ideas to
Jim@LegacyFamilyTree.com. We'd love to include it in our newsletter and on our Web site. We are looking for short, simple things everyone can do to improve they way they use Legacy, but may not have thought about.
OUR FAVORITE WEB SITES
GeneaSeek is a genealogy specific
internet search engine. It currently indexes over 4,200,000 genealogy pages
all over the web. This search engine is "full text". It goes through the Web and
indexes the pages pertinent to genealogy. The GeneaSeek search engine was
developed by GeneaNet.
Why use GeneaSeek?
GeneaSeek archives the pages in a memory
cache. All pages indexed by GeneaSeek are kept in the memory cache of the
engine. This option allows you to view the pages, even if the server on which
they are is unavailable temporarily. If pages disappeared from the server (Error
404), you will be able to consult the pages all the same! Be aware that archived
pages may be less updated than the online pages.
GeneaSeek offers a preview pertaining
to each result. GeneaSeek will show in bold letters the text corresponding
to your request. Contrary to other search engines which display a general
description of the website, GeneaSeek will put the words you used in your
request directly in the context of the page. This type of display will save you
time and avoid downloading non-pertinent pages.
Please point your browsers to:
