bullet  Research Notes:

In Canterbury in the Old Smith Cemetery reside the following -
- Clark, Barnabas, son of Asa & Rebecca, died Nov. 26, 1782, age 3 yrs;
- Clark, Jemima, wife of Nathanial, died June 30, 1817, age 86 yrs;
- Clark, Nathanial (Capt. Johnson's Co., Rev. War), died Jan. 29, 1802, age 72;
- Clark, Rebecca, wife of Asa, died Sept. 1, 1784, age 24 yrs;
- Clark, Ruby, daughter of Asa & Rebecca, died Oct. 29, 1782, age 7 mos.
Based on this information, there appears to be two Asa Clark families who married Rebeccas. The Pomfret Asa Clark died in 1774, so he could not be the father of the Canterbury Barnabas who would have been born in abt 1779 or Ruby who would have been born in 1782. Rebecca, wife of Asa would have been born abt 1760. The Pomfret Asa-Rebecca couple was married in 1763, so it is highly doubtful that these two families are the same. Nathaniel and Jemima were probably the parents of Canterbury's Asa, they were born calculated 1730 and 1731 respectively, which again contradicts the information I have about Asa's parents, Nathaniel and Mary born 1720 and 1725 respectively. Canterbury is about 13 miles south of Pomfret. Unfortunately, the Canterbury Clarks and the Pomfret Clarks have been combined as one family in many accounts, especially online databases.

Asa's estate was probated, beginning with Rebeckah (his wife) and Caleb (his brother) signing a bond dated 6 Sep 1774 in Pomfret. His inventory was taken and presented in court 4 Oct 1774. No documents indicating the distribution of the inventory were included in the probate packet. This is probably the case because his wife was still living. No probates for Rebeckah have been found.
