Ancestry.com Search Does Not Work
Due to changes is the affiliate program at Ancestry.com,
the current search link in Legacy no longer works. Here is a work
around for the Ancestry.com search in Legacy:
1. In Legacy, click Internet on the menu bar and select Search Internet for Current Person.
2. Next click on the Customize Searches button. Click on one of the Select buttons (the one next to the Ancestry.com search) to bring up the Select an Internet Search window. Scroll down to Ancestry.com, click on Edit.
Copy the following URL and paste it in the search string field,
completely replacing the one that starts with http://service.bfast.com....
This is an extremely long link, so make sure it all gets pasted into the search string field exactly, with no breaks or spaces.
4. Click Save, then at the next screen click Select, then at the next screen Close and try the Ancestry.com search again.
If you have the Standard Edition of Legacy, you'll need to just do the search directly on the Ancestry.com site until this can get resolved.
Legacy's Research Guidance section also has links to individual databases at Ancestry.com. For example, on the Preliminary Survey tab, clicking on the Local Histories tab provides an automated listing of local/county histories of the areas in which your ancestor lived. Some of these books are available online. If you click on the Online button for books that are available at Ancestry, you will still be presented with Ancestry's error message. Currently, there is not a way to update the link. However, the book is still available at Ancestry, you will just have to temporarily manually look it up on their site.
