• Internet Explorer script error when doing an IGI Search
What should you do about Internet Explorer script error when doing an IGI Search?
It's not a serious error. You should click No to ignore the error. The Script error message is being generated by Internet Explorer when there is a problem with the Javascript or VBScript code on the website you are viewing -- in this case, www.FamilySearch.org. It's not a problem in the Legacy Family Tree program.
Our programmer explained in August 2009, "I have reported this to FamilySearch asking them to fix the page on their site. I think the IGI is a dead product for them and I'm not holding my breath for them to fix anything. It is no longer being updated at all."
The new FamilySearch tool that we are working on uses an API and will not be doing screen scraping. When the new FamilySearch tool is completed current Internet Searches will not go away; just the interface to the IGI will change to the new Family Search site. That will put an end to the Internet Explorer script error.
