Advanced Sourcing

Advanced Sourcing is only available in the Legacy Deluxe Edition.  To unlock the Deluxe Edition features in the Legacy Standard Edition, please call 1 800 753-3453 or visit the Online Store to order and receive the new Deluxe Edition Customer ID Number.

The new Advanced Sourcing features lets you assign sources to a group of individuals or marriages at one time. You can select the fields you want the sources to be applied to. This is an easy way to go back and document groups of records that came from the same source.

To start Advanced Sourcing, click Tools on the menu bar and select Advanced Sourcing from the Tools menu. (Advanced Sourcing is also available from the Name List by clicking Options and select it from the Options menu.) The Advanced Source Citation window will open. To assign sources using the citation currently on the Source Clipboard first click the Source Clipboard button on the right side of the window.

The Source Clipboard holds the references of up to five sources in the Master Source List. You can set or change the master source citations by clicking the Set button on each of the five tabs. The clipboard also holds the detailed information about where in each source the current information is coming from. (You can also set the Surety Level for each source of information.)

When you have entered the current source information, click OK to return to the entry form. You can place up to five source citations on the Source Clipboard at once. When you have it set up the way you want you can also save up to ten different variations. Additional Source Clipboard information is available by clicking on Help. When finished, click OK and you will return to the Advanced Source Citation window.

Following is a brief description of the two tabs in the Advanced Source Citation window.

Which Records to Use

If you have tagged selected individuals or marriages, the sources on the Source Clipboard are available to:

  • Assign to all individual records tagged on # tag level 1, 2, or 3, etc.
  • Assign to all marriage records tagged on # tag level 1, 2, or 3, etc.

To find out more about tagging records, press F1 on the keyboard and the Legacy Help System window will open. Next click Help Topics and the Help Topics window will open. Click the Index tab:

    1. Type “tagging”
    2. Click the Index entry you want (tagging ancestors, descendants, individuals or marriages) and then click Display.
