TempleReady Program

TempleReady™, produced by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is a program that is used to submit individuals and families to an LDS temple so their ordinance work can be completed. TempleReady checks the Ordinance Index (IGI) to see if the work has been done previously.

If the name qualifies, it is added to an output file. Information submitted should be accurate and documented to prevent duplication of genealogical research and temple ordinances. Be sure the name, sex, date, and locality fields contain correct and meaningful information.

If a person you are submitting was born within the last 95 years, obtain permission from the person's closest living relative. This relative often wishes to receive the ordinances in behalf of the deceased or designate someone to receive them. In some instances, the relative may wish to postpone the performance of the ordinances.

You no longer mail your Temple Names Preparation diskette to Church headquarters. Instead, do the following:

1. Label your Temple Names Preparation diskette.

2. Take your Temple Names Preparation diskette and at least two blank, formatted diskettes to a meetinghouse or family history center that has a computer equipped with FamilySearch®.

3. Use the TempleReady program to prepare your names for the temple. TempleReady guides you in preparing and saving your names on a diskette to send to the temple.

4. Take or mail your submission diskette to the temple of your choice.

Using the TempleReady Report

The TempleReady Report of Names Submitted for Temple Ordinance Work is produced at the end of the submission process by the TempleReady program in a meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The report contains the names of all individuals submitted in the TempleReady Submission File. Each name includes a list of appropriate ordinances and their status. The status can be:

Ready -- The ordinance is ready to be done at the temple.

Not ready -- There is not enough information for the ordinance to be done. The reason or reasons are given in the report. This is usually due to a missing date, place or name.

Done -- The ordinance has already been performed. The date and temple where the ordinance was performed is included.

Not being submitted -- The ordinance was not being considered for completion. For example, if an individual's parents are not included in the TempleReady Submission File, the Seal to Parents ordinance for that individual is not considered for clearing. Another reason is that the TempleReady Submission File shows that the ordinance has already been performed.

Already Listed -- The ordinance was listed previously in the report.

Living -- It could not be determined with surety that this person was dead for more than one year.

Skipped -- TempleReady was not able to search a needed region of the world at this time. The name should be submitted again at a later time when this region is available.

Names and locations in the report that are enclosed in brackets <> have been approximated by the computer. For example: <1845> or <Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts>

There is a submission summary at the end of the report showing the total number of each type of ordinance cleared. You should transfer the date and temple information for all individuals with an ordinance status of Done to your family file. Search for each name or look in the Name List and then type the information into the appropriate ordinance date and temple field. This records the ordinance completion for your information and also prevents them from being re-submitted in the future.

Reading the Temple Submission File

A Temple Submission File contains the names of individuals and families that have one or more ordinances cleared for temple work. It is created by the TempleReady program at a meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Legacy reads this file (or the backup file that was offered), and marks the ordinance dates as "Cleared" so you know that they have been actually submitted to the temple and so they won't be submitted again by mistake.

To read a Temple Submission File:

1. Choose Read Temple Submission File from the File / TempleReady menu.

2. Select the Temple Submission File you want to read. This will have either a ".SUB" or ".BAC" file extension.

3. Legacy scans through the file and shows you when it was created and how many of each type of ordinance it contains.

4. Type the entry you would like to make in the cleared ordinance date fields. It is suggested that you put the word "Cleared" and the date (the date taken from the Temple Submission File). Be sure the Include Date checkbox is checked to include the date.

5. Click Read the File. Legacy reads in the Temple Submission File and places the specified marking in all the cleared ordinance date fields for the individuals and families contained in the file. Legacy checks to make sure you are reading a Temple Submission File that matches the current family file. If the names, RINs, and marriage dates don't match exactly, Legacy prompts you for permission to continue.

Reading the TempleReady Update File

TempleReady for Windows can create an update file on a diskette that when read into Legacy will automatically insert all completed or cleared temple ordinance data that was found while processing names for the Temple. This feature allows you to quickly update your family without having to manually entered completed information from TempleReady's printed report.

To read a TempleReady Update File:

1. Put the disk with the update file your created in TempleReady into your computer.

2. Choose TempleReady / Read TempleReady Update File from the File / TempleReady menu.

3. Select A: drive and double-click on the TempleReady Update File. It will have a ".OUP" file extension.

4. Legacy scans through the file and shows you when it was created and how many of each type of ordinance it contains.

5. Click Read the File and Legacy will update yours records.

Search For Submitted

The Search For Submitted feature in Legacy is used as the final step in a temple ordinance submission batch. It is done after the Temple Submission File has been read by Legacy to mark the actual individual ordinances that were cleared. When the Search and Clear window appears, it contains all non-date entries in ordinance date fields. These are usually entries like "Submitted" or "Submitted [date]" or "Cleared." If you would like to limit the list to just entries that begin with the word "Submitted", check the box at the bottom of the list that says, Show only 'Submitted' entries in Ordinance Date fields. To continue with the Search and Clear procedure:

1. Select the entry you want to clear by clicking on it in the list.

2. Click Search/Clear Selected Item to begin the clearing process. Legacy then clears the contents of all ordinance date fields that match the selected entry.

Search and Clear can also be used to start the submission process over again when some names must be re-qualified for any reason. If the “Submitted” or “Sub” is left in the Temple ordinance date fields, the program will view them as individuals who are not to be considered they were previously submitted.
